    Metformin not dissolving

The last 3 days she has been trembling, fighting constipation(she hasn't had a bowel movement in over a week-taking Correctol, sipping prune juice-about 4 oz a day and tried an enema)and unable to leave her bed but the quick trips to the bathroom which is right by her room. She has an appointment on Tuesday to check her potassium levels and after what I have read I want to request a check of the metformin levels in her blood as well. I'm also experiencing a capsule looking object in my stools from time to time. I've had a colonoscopy done and tested positive for H.pylori about 10 months ago. I did mention this to my Gastroenterologist and I also provide stool specimens and he didn't say that he found anything. It also seems as if the object have grown since the last time I noticed this in my bowel movement. But my endorcrinologist said that he believes i am Insulin Resistant, more blood tests will tell in a few weeks, and he may put me on Metformin... It has been almost two weeks since I started the medication....the past couple of days I noticed something in my bowel movement....in my morning stool it looks kinda orangish an kinda like a small carrot that has white stuff in the middle. He did say it 'should' help with weight loss, i am stuck stuck stuck as of now... I know this is totally disgusting but I need some advice! Could it be the metformin being released in my stool?? Head over to this page: https://messageboards.webmd.com/health-conditions/f/diabetes/2. Do you notice that the "Pill" passes later in the day with your bowel movement?? I was just put on this ER form about the fist of July along with 2 other new medications. (I'm seeing 2 pills each time in the stool too) One is Glipizide ER 5MG Tablet (which does say something about NOT being concerned if you see a "tablet shell" in your stool (but this tablet is only the size of a Bayer aspirin 81 mg, so I know that it is NOT what I'm seeing) I'm only taking one tablet a day in the morning. Go over to the crohn,s and colitis board or the IBS board and you will find info on that problem of passing undigested medication. I have kind of a gross question for other people who are taking Metformin 500MG ER Tablets. I have inflamatory bowel disease and when I had ulcers bad through out my colon I would pass pills like that . The other new medication I was put on is Gemfibrozil 600MG Tablets. (so once again I don't believe this is what I see in my stool either) I apologize if I offended anyone. Are you absorbing any of your diabete,s meds I was on that but I have the IBS so metformin was not a good choice for me. So now I am on insulin it does not mess with my bowels . Sounds like your food may be going through to fast keep postig.slipper As Smip said ..is normal. I was told to expect this to happen and not to worry about it as the body has "used" all it needs and passes the rest. Trust me ...all the topics that have been discussed here ....have not offended anyone.

My understanding is that the extended release have a permeable hard shell that doesn't dissolve...it's supposed to pass through you intact. Some people find that the name brand Glucophage is the best metformin, and other brands are unpredictable..work, some don't. However, I the pharmacist put a label on the tablets that says not to crush them, because they're time-released and need to be absorbed slowly. My own experience with the regular form of Metformin was grim, at best. I've been taking the extended release version since mid-December and am doing well with it. It helps with the dawn phenomenon and the occasional, mild nausea happens when I'm asleep. I think you should discuss this with an endocrinologist. You might want to google your problem to see what comes up. Age 68 113 pounds, Breast Cancer dx'd 6/16, 6 months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation 8 surgeries between 12/15-1/18 2000 metformin ER, 100 mg Januvia, Glimperide, Prolia, Gabapentin, Meloxicam, Probiotic with a Prebiotic, , Lisinopril, B-12, B-6, Tumeric, Magnesium, Calcium, Vit D, and Occuvite mostly vegan diet, low fat and around 125 carbs a day, walk 5-6 miles every other day and 1 hour of yoga and light weights. You can ask your pharmacy for another manufacturer. I had a not good reaction when pharmacy gave me a new manufacturer for a generic and when I told the pharmacist, she got the old manufacturer's pill back for me. This was a mom-and-pop pharmacy, not a big chain, and the big chains should be able to change easily. The pain team kept telling me how lucky I was to have this dr. They even talked with my daughter about my doing drugs on the side. I was in terrible pain but the surgeon said he only did surgery, not pain mgt. about 3 weeks ago my doc increased my dosage adding a a.m. I did not have this side affect when I first began taking the pills but now when I take the two in the p.m.. Then the one I take in morning comes out sometimes as well. I have read some information where it says this may occur and the discharge is just the unneeded stuff in the pill. But I'm getting constipation from the Nexium and still on that. When I had surgery, I was given a pain med which traveled the same route. I recently went on vacation and noticed that when I went to the bathroom, a few times a day (this is a little gross) was an enlarged looking tabet like thing in my bowel movement. My reading are somewhat better but not what my doc wants yet for fasting. Of course it gave me constipation and they took me off of it. Hugs, Faye Michele, I read with much interest your post about your meds going straight through you. I really do not want to take anything that causes weight gain. AZDesert Rat, I didn't know this and I was on Glucophage for a week or so. He has never complained about seeing the pill, though. Yes, that is normal for the pill to come out whole as you described. You can do a search on your search engine if you wish, will give you a lot of info if you need it. He may need or want to change your meds if need be. You may also want to mention your concerns to your Dr. He will reassure you that this is normal with some people. ) Metformin is a biguanide which works with your liver to help prevent excess glucose spilling out.

A few years ago I was visiting my brother and his little family down in Florida. He had to work one day I was there, so I got in a car and drove a couple hours down to Sanibel Island, a lovely gorgeous place I wish I could afford to live year round. On one of the beaches, I encountered a small red baby octopus walking around in the shells and driftwood. There were a lot of hungry seabirds around, and I just couldn’t stomach the thought of one of them eating this cool little guy, so when he climbed on a large shell I scooped up the shell and carried him to the water. By the time we got to the water he had climbed off the shell and onto my hand. I thought he would let go of my hand and go swimming off into the ocean once I put him in the water, but no dice. He was so small, I was really amazed at how strong his sticky little tentacles were.
